Samsung Galaxy Note II sales cross 5 million in two months
Samsung’s smartphone strategy seems to hitting all the right notes. First the Galaxy S III became the world’s best selling device, with nearly 18 million devices sold in the third quarter of 2012. Now the Note II is also doing well with sales crossing the 5 million mark in the first two months of its launch.
The Note II was released in India in September and the device was first shown at the IFA 2012 in Berlin in August. The good sales figures for the Note II indicate that despite skepticism on the part of some critics, its big screen size hasn’t turned off potential customers.
Key features of the Galaxy Note II are a 5.5-inch (14-centimeter) screen with AMOLED touchscreen and 1280 x 720 pixel density. It comes with a super-fast, 1.6 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. It also has an 8 megapixel AF/ Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback and front camera with 1.9 megapixels.
The phablet, comes in three versions, namely 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. Both the 16 and 32 GB versions can be expanded to 64GB and the device is 4G enabled. However in India the device seems to available in 16GB versions only.
It also runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean. It also comes with a stylus, which is designed to making writing, drawing etc much easier.
According to research firm IDC Samsung is the global leader in the smartphone market for the third quarter of 2012 with nearly 56.3 million sales. Rival Apple sold 26.9 million iPhone sales in comparison.
Meanwhile Apple has added Samsung’s Note II to its lawsuit against the South-Korean firm.
The Note II was launched in India in September and costs Rs 39,900.
