iPhone 5 launch: Has Apple slashed iPhone 4S, 4 prices in India?
There are news reports that Apple has slashed the prices of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 in India. According toIBN-Live, which quotes an Apple spokesperson, the iPhone 4S 16GB model is now available for Rs 41,400, a reduction of Rs 3,100 from its earlier price of Rs 44,500.
It also seems that iPhone 4 8GB is now available for Rs 28, 300 a reduction of nearly Rs 9,600. In addition to this Apple has officially discontinued the iPhone 3GS.
On the official Airtel site, however the price of the iPhone 4S (16GB) is still shown as Rs 44,500 while the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (unlocked) for both 16 and 32 GB is shown as out of stock. However it does add that the iPhone 5 is ‘coming soon’.
No exact date given, although word on the street is that it will be launched just ahead of diwali. Previously there were reports that Airtel, Vodafone and Aircel have placed orders for Nano-SIM cards which are used in the iPhone 5.
The iPhone 5 when it does launch, is expected to cost nearly Rs 50,000. Unofficially, the iPhone 5 has already hit the stores in India’s grey markets and according to reports, the 16GB version of the phone costs approximately Rs 76,000, the 32GB version is Rs 85,000, and the 64GB version of the iPhone 5 is available at a whopping Rs 1,00,000.
